Elders, Trees and Me
A nature exploration into the emotions and feelings of, ‘welcomed by life,’ for simply being the individual named, you.
Finding your True North by creating a feeling of foundation, safety and security by bonding with nature, camp members and elders.
Questions will be explored such as:
How are we like trees physically and emotionally?
Both humans and trees are mostly water, we share similar physical characteristics, and each one of us are completely unique. In addition, humans and trees are interdependent - we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide, while trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen.
Trees, like humans, are relational beings. They need a multitude of other living organisms to keep on going, to grow, to reproduce.
Morning Flow
After the morning emotional play warm up by the lake you will team up with your Mentor Guide. They will give you your back pack, hydro flask plus any supplies needed for the Earth Day Adventure Camp.
Your Mentor Guide is there to support your needs of the day, protect you and give you guidance on a variety of topics. 2 youth per guide. We stay in the full group for the day.
Earth camp will then explore our connections to Trees with your morning hike elder guide, Mr. James Coker (you may call him, Mr. James).
Mr. James will share his childhood stories of hikes, climbing magnolia trees in South Carolina, exploring the swamp trees and the special trees of the Foothill Preserve. Each children will be given a compass to attach to their backpacks and taught how to use it. Symbolic of following their hearts or, ' True North.'
